Kathua College women win in volleyball

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 21: Government Degree College Kathua won the dilly dallying battle to reach the second round of quarterfinals in the ongoing inter-college women’s volleyball tournament, organised by Department of Sports and Physical Education, JU here.
Although both the colleges fielded below standard teams, still Kathua women had upper hand in service and lifting which helped them emerge winners beating Dogra Law College in straight sets 25-17, 25-11.
Meanwhile, other three scheduled matches for today could not be played. While Government College for Women got walkover Degree College Rajouri, PG Departments awarded walkover Government SPMR College of Commerce. In another scheduled match, both KC Law College and GGM Science College failed to report the venue.
Today’s matches were officiated by Shashi Sharma, Shafkat Hussain Shah and Pandit Mulkh Raj Sharma.
FIXTURE: (Quarterfinals): GCW Gandhi Nagar V/s Trikuta Degree College; Degree College Ramnagar V/s Degree College Udhampur; GCW Parade V/s Degree College Kathua.

Semis line-up drawn in basketball

Semifinals position has been cleared in inter-college men’s basketball competitions underway at Gymnasium Hall of the JU, here today.
Now, in the semi-finals, to be played tomorrow, MAM College shall take on PG Departments while the title holders, Trikuta Degree College shall be playing against SPMR College of Commerce.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, played today, MAM College defeated MAM (Evening) in a one-sided contest 45-04. Rajinder was star performer from MAM with 23 points. In another quarterfinal, PG Departments trounced Dogra Law College 56-12 making it a one-sided affair. Ranbir and Mohit were main scorers with 28 and 12 points in their respective accounts.
To reach the semi-finals, Commerce College defeated GGM Science College in a well contested match 33-25. Shubam contributed highest 22 points from winners’ side while Amit and Sunil Yadav were main scorers from Science College with 10 and nine points in their respective accounts. In another quarterfinal match, Trikuta College registered a big 20-02 win over Government Degree College Akhnoor. Varender Sharma was top scorer with 12 points from Trikuta College.
Today’s matches were officiated by Aman Sharma, Harpreet Singh, Sumit Kumar and Amit Singh.
