Rs 50 lakh for hospitals? | Patients ridicule Law Minister's claim | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 21: The Law minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar could not find appropriate words to respond to the queries of Barkha Dutt and one of the visiting parliamentarian Owaisi during a discussion on NDTV last evening. A visibly shaken Sagar made a comment that evoked severe reaction from the people living in close vicinity of Srinagar hospitals. When Owaisi said the hospitals in Srinagar were running short of medicines and food, Sagar said the government had kept around Rs 50 lakhs at the disposal of the hospitals to provide free medicines and food to the wounded and the people attending them. According to a local English daily report, food is made is provided to the wounded from far flung areas in SMHS hospital by the locals especially by the Mosque Affairs Committee at Gole Market, Karan Nagar. The report said the Committee raises donations from people and has hired chefs to prepare food for all the wounded and their attendants. "The committee has been doing it for the past three months", the report said. People of Sarai Bala, Magarmal Bagh, Batmaloo have been providing food to patients in Lal Ded hospital, said Mushtaq Ahamd, an office bearer of a local mosque committee. This claim was found correct when cross checked. The patients in Lal Ded hospital are all praise for the local people for all the help they have been rendering to them. Similarly the Barzulla people have ensured adequate supply of food to the patients in the Bone and Joint Hospital. "The law minister is lying. We have not received any help from the government till date", said an attendant. "Bring him to me. I want to ask him a few questions", he said. Another attendant at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences narrated a similar story. "We are thankful to the people of Srinagar. But for their help we would have starved here", he said. My mother's presence prevents me from using appropriate words for the defunct government and their so-called help", he said. |
