| PG to meet Commerce College in basketball final | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 22: Post Graduate (PG) Departments shall face Government SPMR College of Commerce in the final of the inter-college men's basketball tournament being played at Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu, here tomorrow.
This year, both teams gave their improved performance to reach the final outplaying the last year's finalists in the semi-finals today.
In the first semi-final, PG Department outplayed Government MAM College 34-30 in a close contest. Ranbir (16) and Mohit (8) were main scorers from winners PG Departments. From MAM, Rajinder (12) and Vishal (8) secured maximum points.
In another semi-final, Commerce College upset the defending champion, Trikuta Degree College beating latter 52-24. Shubham (30) was top scorer while Sachin contributed 12 points from winners while Vasuder obtained maximum 19 points from Trikuta College. Today's semi-finals were officiated by Ravinder Khajuria, Harpreet Singh, Sumit Kumar and Amit Singh.
Semis line-up drawn in women volleyball
Meanwhile, semi-finals position has been cleared in the ongoing women's volleyball tournament at University of Jammu courts, here today.
Now, in the semi-finals, to be played tomorrow, Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar shall face Degree College Udhampur while GCW Parade shall be playing against PG Departments.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, played today, GCW Gandhi Nagar defeated Trikuta College in easy straight sets 25-00, 25-07, while Udhampur women trounced Degree College Ramnagar in a neck to neck contest 26-24, 25-20.
In another quarterfinal, GCW Parade registered a straight sets (25-12, 25-13) win over Degree College Kathua. Sangeeta played a key role in Parade College win. The defending champions, PG Departments reached the semi-finals without playing even a single match.
Today's quarterfinals were officiated by Alyas Mohd., Shafqat Shah, Mulkh Raj, Gurpreet Kour and Shashi Sharma. |
