PDP wants centre to take bold measures for satisfying peoples' aspirations | | | EARLY TIMES report Jammu, Sept 22: The PDP leadership hopes that the Government of India, acting on the report of the members of the All Party delegation who visited Srinagar and Jammu the other, offer a suitable solution to the three-month long turmoil in Kashmir which left over 103 people dead in police firing. "If the centre this time sleeps over the matter it would denoate that the process of reconciliation initiated by the members of the All Party delegation had been a meaningless exercise, "said senior PDP leader, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat. Asked whether the PDP want ed repeal of the AFSPA and withdrawal of troops from within the valley Bhat said "we have moved above all these issues and we expect the centre to with a package that would satisfy the aspirations of the people of Kashmir." He said that the members had met a cross section of people, besides the separatists, and visited couple of places including the hospitals. This interaction has given them an idea of the sufferings of the people in Kashmir."It has given them an idea on the aspirations and demands of the people of the valley and it is hoped that the delegation members will accordingly persuade the Government of India to dish out a solution that could end violence and restore peace and normalcy to Kashmir,"Bhat said. Leaders belonging to the National Conference too wanted the Government of India to use the visit of the All Party delegation visit to Kashmir as the base for resolving the main irritants. These leaders favoured restoration of autonomy which could act as a major political package for the people of the state. Both the NC and the PDP leaders said that an impression had gone round the valley that the Government of India has started being "serious about the Kashmir problem," and as such the centre could ill afford to lose a fresh opportunity that has come in its hand from the way the delegation members broke a prolonged ice with the separatists. They said even if the separatists were reluctant to meet the delegation members they played a good host when the mebers of the Delhi team visited Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Molvi Umar and Yasin Malik. The interaction seemed to have mellowed down the level of anger among the separatists. The PDP leadership wanted the Government of India to cash on the softened approach of the separatists and win them over along with the angry youth by dishing out a package that could satiate the aspirations of the people of the state. Nizam-Ud-Din Bhat appealed to the BJP and some political groups in the Jammu region, besides the Kashmiri migrants, not to raise any hurdles in the programme aimed at carrying the process of reconciliation to its logical conclusion. He said people in the entire state have suffered sever e losses and it was time for the centre to devise ways and means for ending prolonged turmoil and tension. |
