LAHDC election on Oct 16 | | | M Ramzan Khan early times report Leh, Sept. 22: The 4th general election to the 30 members 'Ladakh Autonomous Hill Developlment Council' will be held on October 16. The much hyped 4th general election will be mainly contested between Indian National Congress and recently BJP from LUTF. Earlier, the LUTF which is now BJP and others political parties except INC had boycotted the election on the plea that the people here are still in trauma due to recent flood and are not ready for election, but as of now all the political parties are in fray except JKNPP and BSP. The dead line for filing of nomination was September 20. So far 170 candidates had filled their nomination out of which 66 were from INC, 43 from BJP, 04 from PDP and 57 filled their nomination as independent candidates. After scrutiny on September the INC have now 24 candidates, BJP have 20 candidates, PDP have their 04 candidates and there are still 48 independent candidates in election fray. Only one candidate was drop out in the process of scrutiny rest was confirmed after dropping their back up candidates. September 24 is the last date for withdrawal of nomination for the candidates. Out of 30th members in LAHDC 26 members are being elected for which there are now 86 candidates are in fray. The main fight is between INC and Congress. INC which is in strong position after winning assembly election in 2008 and LUTF, which is now become BJP ,is presently in power at LAHDC Leh. The BJP at their function recently in which LUTF was merged with BJP apprehend rigging in election by the opposition party that why the state government has imposed election on us in this time of distress and trouble. The additional District commissioner, who is the incharge of election, while querying about the election was not happy to give answer. "I am here not to give the ABC of election" said the ADC. On asking about the counting of election the he says that the result will came before October 25.
