EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 22: The attitude of other deputations, which met with the all-party parliamentary delegation in Srinagar on September 20, was no different. The members of the so-called civil society put forth demands almost similar to the ones put forth by the Kashmiri separatists. Their attack on India and the Army and paramilitary forces was blistering. They made mountains out of the molehills and painted trivial incidents in lurid colours. In fact, they exaggerated things. All of their formulations were communally-motivated, which indicated their contempt for the non-Muslim minorities. They also attacked Omar Abdullah and his non-performing government. As a matter of fact, they dismissed, and very rightly, the government as the most incompetent and corrupt.
In other words, all the deputations, which interacted with the all-party parliamentary delegations or with whom the all-parliamentary delegation met made it amply clear that the people of Kashmir want to severe their political and constitutional relations with India and the basis on which they formulated their views was nothing else but religion. They belong to a different religion, different culture and different civilization and hence, they cannot have any truck with the Hindu India was the upshot of the whole argument the Kashmiri deputations, without any exception, advanced while making a case against India.
The all-party delegation could get only one viewpoint and that spoke very ill of India. It could have get another point of view had the head of the all-party delegation and biased, vindictive and controversial Chief Minister allowed the miniscule minorities in the Kashmir Valley to meet the all-party delegation and narrate their woeful tales. It appears the whole exercise was aimed at reaching out to the extremists and separatists and their supporters and pampering them even by bringing a bad name to the country and not to redress the grievances of the minorities in Kashmir, which have been suffering from the communal, regressive and intolerant depredations. How else could one interpret the exclusion of the representatives of the harassed minority communities in Kashmir from the list of those selected for their meeting with the all-party delegation?
What transpired during the interaction between the all-party delegation and Kashmiri deputations at the venue of interaction and at the residences of the separatists and Pakistani agents ran counter to what the people of Jammu and Ladakh and displaced Kashmiri Hindus had been struggling to achieve since 1947. They had been struggling. And continue to struggle, to achieve a dispensation that integrates them fully into India, that empowers them to shape, mould and control fully their political, economic and social future within India and under the Indian Constitution and that compensates them for the immense political, economic and social losses they have suffered thus far at the hands of the Kashmiri rulers and their henchmen in Jammu, Ladakh and New Delhi. Integration with India has been their watchword and empowerment of the persecuted and discriminated against non-Muslim minorities the cornerstone of their struggle.
What transpired in Kashmir during the visit of the all-party delegation also ran counter to what the people of Jammu and Ladakh and displaced Kashmiri Hindus had been seeking to defeat in Kashmir by making supreme sacrifices. Ever since October 1947, when Jawaharlal Nehru transferred the political power from Jammu to the pro-autonomy Sheikh Abdullah of Kashmir using undemocratic means, the people of Jammu and Ladakh have been opposing the politics of autonomy, independence and Pakistan being indulged in by the Kashmiri leaders. They have been consistently urging the Union Government to rein in the votaries of independence, autonomy, Pakistan and self-rule and showing them their rightful place. They have all along held the view that New Delhi has, instead of taking on the rebels in Kashmir, pampered and appeased them. In other words, they have all along accused, and continue to accuse, New Delhi of pandering to communalism in Kashmir at the cost of the nation and the nationalist constituency in the state - constituency that is bigger than the one represented by those working for autonomy, self-rule, independence and Pakistan.
JKPCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz talks about the unity and integrity of Jammu and Kashmir. Fair enough. But he should remember that he is an odd face in Kashmir. In Kashmir, all the leaders, without any exception, stand for what they stand for and there is nothing that is common between them and the people of Jammu and Ladakh and between the former and the displaced Kashmiri Hindus. There is no meeting ground. Their aspirations are different. Their whole approach is communal, parochial and Pakistan and Kashmir-centric. Hence, it is clear that the state is on the verge of disintegration. It should disintegrate. The sooner it happens the better. You cannot keep the disparate elements united for all the times to come. Even otherwise, division of the state into three full-fledged states and division of Kashmir into two full-fledged states is the national requirement and need of the time. Statesmanship also demands reorganization of the state. (Concluded)
