13 killed, 4 hurt in road mishaps | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 22: Thirteen persons, including eight Nepali nationals and an army jawan, were killed and at least four others wounded in two road mishaps here today. In the first incident, that took place in the morning on the Leh-Srinagar national highway near Kangan when a Tata sumo cab rolled down into a gorge, nine persons, including eight Nepalese labourers and the driver, were killed. The ill-fated sumo (JK10/1700) was on its way from Kargil to Srinagar. Police sources said it skidded off the road and fell into a 300-ft deep gorge at Ganiwan near Kangan. All the eight Nepalese nationals, who were travelling in it, and the driver were killed in this accident, the sources added. The bodies of the Nepali labourers were kept at sub-district hospital, Kangan, for identification. The dead driver was identified as Ahmed Ali, son of Abdul Aziz. After post-mortem, his body was handed over to his family members for last rites. Police had registered a case in this connection. Meanwhile, four persons were killed and at least four others injured when a bus, which was on its way from Doda to Jammu, hit a roadside rock at Rehmbal in Udhampur at about 5 pm. The mishap took place because of the slip that had developed on the road due to rains that lashed the area this evening, sources said. The dead were identified as sepoy Ashok Kumar Yadav of 47 AG Regiment, Sajjad Zargar of Doda, Nazir Ahmed of Doda and Sunita Devi of Khalaini. Three of the injured were identified as Deeraj Singh, Neha and Shabina of Doda. They were admitted to the Udhampur district hospital. |
