EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 23: The Joint forum of Kashmiri Pandit organisations represented by All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference, Panun Kashmir and Non-Camp Migrant co-ordination committee and camp representatives held a press conference today to address issues arising out of the current strife in Kashmir valley and its effects on the displaced community.
The conference was addressed by A.N.Vaishnavi, President-ASKPC, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President-Panun Kashmir, H.L.Chatta, General Secretary-ASKPC, Virender Raina, National Spokesperson-PK and D.N.Kissu, Chairman-NCMCC. The Joint Forum expressed its serious concern over the developments in the valley particularly in the context of the government offering proposals that have already been rejected earlier. The Forum stated that the time has come to categorically enunciate the position of the nation that Jammu and Kashmir state is an inalienable part of the Union of India and nobody has any mandate to negotiate issues relating to sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Joint Forum has decided to form a group that would visit various places in the country to apprise the people about the happenings in Kashmir. The group would represent the Kashmiri Pandit opinion in a comprehensive manner and would comprise people from across the spectrum of KP active groups, intellectuals and leading activists. Meanwhile, a political conference to debate the issues relating to KP Diaspora would be organised at Jammu on October 3 preceded by a workers convention of all representative groups. It would be ensured that the opinion makers within and outside the community would contribute with their inputs for the success of the conference. The Forum members appealed the government to immediately come to the rescue of Kashmiri Pandit refugee camps who have been severely hit by the flash floods which have caused extensive damage to the dwelling units and the household items. A.N.Vaishnavi also appealed to the Kashmiri Pandit organisations to exhibit their unity of purpose at this crucial hour and join the Joint Forum of the premier Kashmiri Pandit organisations to take the fight to a logical conclusion.
