EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 23: Not satisfied with the recent visit of All parties Parliamentary Delegation to the state, most of the political and social organizations of Jammu have termed the visit as an exercise in futility.
The delegation which was on three days tour of the sate failed to meet the representatives of various organizations of the Jammu and displaced Kashmiri Pandits and when the leaders approached the authorities regarding the same they were told that their names were not cleared by the higher ups in the Government
Though the J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP) had already announced to boycott the delegation in protest against the failure of any tangible result of the All Party meeting convened by Prime Minister recently on Kashmir, the authorities failed to extend invitation to various Jammu based political and social organizations to elicit their opinion for resolving the present crisis in the state create due to over three month long turmoil in Kashmir Valley.
The authorities as well as the All Parties Delegation has drawn a flak from these political and social organizations from Jammu for not allowing their representatives to meet the delegation. The Shiv Sena Hindustan (SSH), All Migrants Coordination Committee (AMCCC), Hindu Shiv Sena, VHP, J&K Peoples Forum (JKPF) and Jammu Peoples Front (JPF) , PoK refugees and Jammu and Kashmir Vichar Manch have termed the visit a futility as it failed to assess the ground situation by meeting the cross section of people in Jammu and Ladakh regions.
Criticizing the delegation the leaders of these parties said that they visited the residences of separatists including leader of breakaway Hurriyat group Syed Ali Shah Geelani, its moderate faction chief Moulvi Umer Farooq and JKLF leader Yasin Malik but avoided to meet the representatives of various Jammu organizations and ascertain their views on the present situation in the state. Even the meeting was arranged with the another separatists leader Shabir Ahmed Shah after admitting him in a local hospital here.
JKPF convener Ramesh Sabharwal while criticizing the authorities not allowing the representatives of Sangarsh Samiti Jammu, VHP, Academia Society and JKPF while some handpicked people having proximity with ruling NC were produced before the delegation as the representatives of various sections of the people of Jammu region.
Terming it a stage managed show he said this was a deliberate attempt on the part of the Government to hide the real picture before the delegation as the handpicked people advocated for autonomy as demanded by NC.
The same have been the views of the academia delegation which accused the Government of always suppressing the voice of Jammu by giving it a step-motherly treatment. It is an irony that the representatives of Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) and SKUAST Teachers Association were not allowed to meet the delegation by the authorities. This is not for the first time but the Jammu has always meted the same treatment said Pawan Sharma ABVP leader.
Much disturbing is that the representatives of these organizations were called to meet the delegation after the BJP warned that it will boycott the meeting if these organizations were not allowed to meet the delegation, he said. Despite waiting for over three hours they were not allowed to meet the delegation members by the authorities on the pretext of paucity of time, he added.
The 40 activists of AMCCC who also were on their way from Mishriwala camp to meet the delegation were arrested by Damna Police and detained in police station for the entire day. Same treatment was meted to POK refugees who were arrested at Bikram Chowk. Besides the representatives of agitation Home Guards Association, ITI Diploma Holders and representatives of Unemployed Engineers Association of Jammu were also not allowed to see the delegation and arrested by the police.
Such an attitude of the Government has been seriously viewed by the leaders of these organizations who said that the delegation played a joke with people of Jammu by not meeting a cross section of people here.
The Government was apprehensive that the vocal leaders of these organizations may not unfold truth before it and expose the coalition led by Omar Abdullah so they obstructed their meeting with the delegation deliberately, said Desh Rattan president AMCCC and Ravinder Raina of Jammu Sangarsh Samiti.
