Crime Branch raided Super Bazaar, records seized | Alleged involvement of suspended GM, others surface out in embezzlement | | SUMIT SHARMA early times report Jammu, Sept 23: Crime Branch Jammu today conducted a raid in the premises of Super Bazaar, Old Hospital Road, City Chowk run by Jammu Cooperative Society. The raid was conducted following the complaints lodged by some of the employees of the Super Bazaar in December 2009. Acting on a specific information, the Crime Branch sleuths after reaching Super Bazaar confiscated official records for scrutiny as it had inputs that funds worth crores of rupees were misappropriated allegedly by suspended General Manager Naresh Kumar Sharma. Sources said that Naresh Sharma was put under suspension for interruption free investigation by Crime Branch. However, during scrutiny of the records highly placed sources within Crime Branch said that Crime Branch found huge embezzlement of government funds by the then General Manager. Crime Branch had also circled some other employees of the Super Bazaar who were hand in glove in the alleged embezzlement. "The raid which was conducted by a Crime Branch team led by Additional SP Crime Branch Ranjeet Singh reached the Super Bazaar Office at about 11am and after seizing records, scrutiny of which was in progress, SSP Crime Branch Johny William," said when contacted. Sources said that Naresh Sharma is to be quizzed by sleuths in Crime Branch Office and for the purpose summon had been issued to him. Sources further said that during scrutiny of the records Crime Branch sleuths found that besides misappropriation of government funds worth crores of rupees, General Manager had also taken commission worth lakhs from local as well as branded companies to put their worthless products in the Bazaar for sale, thus bring ignominy for the Cooperative Society and huge loss to state exchequer. Not only this during security Crime Branch sleuths also realized that domestic and commercial cylinders in the bazaar outlets, mostly of HP, have no match with the records and on ground as about hundreds of cylinders are embezzled verification of which was still in progress, sources said. |
