Different “raags” in state unit of Congress | | | early times report JAMMU, Sept 23: All is not going well within the state unit of Congress party. Its two delegations, one of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and other Pradesh Youth Congress presented divergent views before the 39 members All Party Delegation (APD), which was recently on three days official visit to the state recently. Senior leader of PCC, Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma told media persons after meeting with the All Party Delegation that the state government was capable of the restoring peace in the trouble torn state. He was not clear in his assertion that neither Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) should be revoked nor was there any need to revisit and grant more autonomy to the state. “For us, the unity of the state is more important,” he said. Somewhat similar was stand another member of the Congress delegation; MP Choudhary Lal Singh stated that send separatists to the Tihar jail. He also said that they would not allow revocation of AFSPA. But stand of the youth Congress was totally against the official stand of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). This difference is not doing well with the Jammu based leaders of PYC. State unit of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) led by Shoaib Ahmed Lone in its memorandum to the APD said that revocation of AFSPA, all youth under detention in different jails should be released and unconditional talks with them, result oriented probe in all innocent civilian killings by the security forces, hassle free ex-gratia to for all innocent victims killed during past three months, and security agencies to show maximum restrain while dealing the angry youth/protesters. If this was not enough, state president National Student Union of India (NSUI), student of Congress, Rashid Choudhary, during a meeting with the members of APD, highlighted the issue of mis-governance in the state and rotational chief ministership in the state. This differing stand of the different wings of Congress is causing a lot of resentment in the cadre of the Congress party particularly in Jammu region. It is pertinent to mention here that the APD led by union Home Minister P Chidambaram met almost 1,000 people from a cross section of the society in the state.
