JKLF Chairman assaulted
10/28/2006 9:33:12 PM

SRINAGAR , OCT 28: Activists of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front took to streets in Maisuma area of Srinagar this afternoon after the Front Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was allegedly beaten by police.
Activists burnt tyres and pelted stones, forcing the shops in the area to down their shutters and traffic to divert. The activists raised slogans demanding action against the police.
Malik was allegedly beaten by the Personal Security Officer of a MLA on Maulana Azad Road in Srinagar 's Lal Chowk area.
"To make way for MLA's vehicle, security personnel were asking the drivers to move their vehicle to one side. While Malik's vehicle took a little while to move aside, security guards hit him with rifle butts in his face and he was injured," JKLF Spokesman, Mohammed Ashraf said.
Malik was hospitalized in Police Control Room Hospital for treatment.
In the wake of a rally organized by ruling coalition partner People's Democratic Party at the Sher-i-Kashnmir Cricket Stadium Park, traffic was blocked on one of the main arteries in Lal Chowk that resulted in heavy traffic jams in and around Lal Chowk.
