Married to 'father-in-law' fraudulently, woman bears mental torture for 10 yrs
9/24/2010 12:13:22 PM

RAJOURI: A woman, who got "fraudulently" married to the father of the youth with whom her marriage was fixed, has termed her nikah unislamic and demanded police intervention for justice.
The marriage of Razia Begum, daughter of Mohammad Din of Atal, was fixed with Abdul Gani of Mangota, Thanamandi, 10 years back. She said after her nikah, she was surprised to find that she had been deceitfully married to Gani's father Khadim Hussain.
As per the nikah agreement, her marriage was to be solemnised with Gani and not with the latter's father, Razia said.
Speaking to media persons here today, she termed her marriage as illegal and unislamic. She said Gani left the village after her "marriage" with Khadim due to unknown reasons.
She said though she never accepted Khadim as her husband, she could not raise her voice against him due to his alleged mental pressure and torture.
"I am fed up now and cannot live anymore in the hostile and tense environment at Khadim's house," Razia said and sought the assistance of media to highlight her case so that it came to the notice of the authorities concerned. Asking some women organisations to come to her rescue, she called upon police to help her get justice.
She said Khadim had also threatened her handicapped father to keep mum in this case. The woman said Khadim had been torturing and harrasing her for the past 10 years because she had refused to accept him as her husband.
She said she also planned to approach Women Commission for justice.
