| Juvenile board hands over abandoned neo-natal girl to childless couple | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 24: The Juvenile Welfare Board Jammu met today under the chairmanship of District Magistrate, Jammu the Chairman of Juvenile Welfare Board Jammu to discuss and decide the case/custody of an abandoned girl child found at Bhawani Nagar Talab Tillo (under police station Nowabad) on September 01, 2010.
A childless couple had approached the Chairman, Juvenile Welfare Board Jammu on September 21, 2010 under section 16 of the J&K Juvenile Justice Act 1997 to allow the couple the custody of the said girl child. The board met the applicants alongwith their lawyer and had detailed discussions on the issue with them.
After satisfying its self of the credentials of the applicants and their assurances to the effect that the abandoned child would be taken care of property by them, the board decided to allow interim custody of the child to the couple for a period of 45 days i.e until the 12th of November, 2010 when the case would be reviewed by the Board with a view to decide the further course of action in the matter.
The Board decided that the Police Department and Chief Medical Officer Jammu shall hand over the child to the couple on submission of a Surety Bond executed by the applicants.
