Local channels restricted to telecast Ayodhya related programs | | | RAJOURI: After imposing section 144 of CrPC, restricting gatherings and rallies, the district administration today banned the telecast of Ayodhya related programmes in the district by the local cable TV channels. The restrictions have been imposed as part of the government effort to ensure that nothing provocative was telecast by the cable operators. Restrictions were also imposed by district magistrate, Poonch, K R Khajuria on local cable TV channels in Poonch after the violent anti-US protests, but these were lifted after the return of normalcy to the area. District magistrate, Rajouri, Gulam Ahmad Khawaja, however, issued directions to the local channels here to desist from telecasting any programme on the Ayodhya verdict. In a letter addressed to managing director of Right Channel, JK Channel and Take1 channel here, Khawaja said the channels were not allowed to carry out any discussion, news or any other programme on Ayodhya issue. Telecasting of 1993 pictures on TV was also banned in Rajouri district, he added. Tazeem Dar of Right Channel said that he had received Khawaja's letter. "We are already not carrying any such programme on the channel which may cause communal tension in Rajouri," he added. Khawaja said that all these restrictions were being imposed to avoid any type of violence on the Ayodhya judgement day. "Our people are peace lovers and are not interested in flaring up communal issues," he said and added, "Section 144 has been imposed for their safety." |
