SKPA holds workshop on policing | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, Sept 25: One-day training cum workshop on "Policing: Reaching out to the Minorities" was organised at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), Udhampur here today. The workshop was sponsored by the Bureau of Police Research and Development, New Delhi. The course was inaugurated by Director SKPA, Dilbag Singh in which he highlighted the need for this kind of workshop and topic which is very relevant to the current scenario of the country. The prominent guest speakers included Assistant Professor, Dr. Baljeet Singh, DGP (Retd) Dr. Ashok Bhan, Prof. Kamal Mitra Chenoy from JNU, New Delhi and many Jammu-based journalists. They spoke about various issues like how rumours play an important role in whipping up communal frenzy, polarizing the whole atmosphere and leading to trust deficit between different communities. During the course, the deliberations on different fields which include "Minorities in the nation and rights of minorities under the constitution of India and other legislations", " Causes of communal tension and eruption of violence", "Administration during conflictual situations" etc. were made. Before the culmination of the course, a panel discussion was also held in which Dr. Ashok Bhan, Director SKPA, Dilbag Singh and Prof. Kamal Mitra Chenoy were the panelists. The workshop was successfully concluded with the valedictory address by Dr. Ashok Bhan in which he asserted that undertaking such types of workshops play pivotal role in confidence building between police and minorities. As many as 29 officers of J&K Police participated in the workshop. |
