Workshop on cultivation and post harvest technology of medicinal plants concludes

Bhaderwah, Sept 25: A two day training cum workshop on the cultivation and post harvest technology of medicinal plants concluded at Khileni of Bahderwah tehsil in Doda.
It was organized by the Facilitation Centre (FC) of National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) of Government of India set up at Indian Institution of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu under the aegis of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and the able stewardship of Director IIIM Dr.R.A.Vishvakarma in collaboration with Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA).
On 23rd September, hundreds of local farmers, members of NGOs and other professional stakeholders were trained in the cultivation and processing of the quality products of some of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) particularly Salvia sclasea,Menthal longifolia, Ashvagandha-withania, Guranium, Ginger, Aloevera, Lavendor and rose through demonstrations and workshops at Bhaderwah by the senior scientists of IIIM.
On 24th September, several locals were imparted field demonstration regarding the cultivation of medicinal plants at the picturesque Khileni resort in Bhaderwah.
Dr. J.K. Dhar,senior scientist, IIIM,who presided over the function said that the aim of organizing these workshops was to uplift the economy of people of Bhaderwah by encouraging and training them to cultivate and process the medicinal and aromatic plants in Bhaderwah like other parts of J&K having a vast potential for the related industry given its diverse and suitable climate.
Dr.Gandhi Ram, and principal investigator of FC and co-ordinator of the programme highlighted the activities of the Facility Centre of National Medicinal Plants Board.
Other resource persons included senior scientists Dr. Shushma Koul, Dr. A.K. Shahi, Dr. S.K. Kichlu, Dr.Ashok Ahuja,Dr.Arun Kumar and Dr.Kanti Rekha.
Chief Executive Officer, BDA Kalyan Singh Parihar was the chief guest and Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Malik, incharge herbal garden BDA, the guest of honour during the programme.
