Govt indulged into farcical tactics: PDP
9/25/2010 9:59:20 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, September 25: Expressing concern over continues imprisonment of the people of Kashmir Valley due to curfew and restrictions, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today regretted that masses are the receiving end as their hardships have been compounding with every passing day but the government on the other hand has been brazenly indulged into cheap tactics to punish the civilians.
"Continuous curfew, without any restrict, in most parts of the Kashmir is an indication of the vindictive policies being propagated by the National Conference led government to punish those who survived its bullets and other oppressive means", stated PDP general secretary and former Minister Mohammad Dilawar Mir in a statement.
While as on the one hand bloodbath has been going unabated in the Valley, on the other hand unprecedented restrictions have been imposed to imprison the helpless people, he said and pointed out that roughing up civilians in public, attacking private properties of citizens and unprovoked firing of women and children were the new techniques being devised by the government to punish the peaceful citizens.
Pointing out towards the problems being faced by the people due to continue curfew, he regretted, "instead of making arrangements for supply of medicines, baby food and other essential commodities, government has deliberately stopped supply of such items". Patients, who are in the dire need of treatment, are not getting medical assistance due to continues restrictions and curfew. "It is result of the restrictions that people at some places are virtually at the verge of starvation due to non availability of ration and other food items", he said.
Pointing towards decision of the State Government to open the schools from Monday amid curfew restrictions with the help of the force, he termed this decision of the government as farcical to hoodwink the people. "On the one hand authorities have virtually imprisoned the entire population of the Kashmir Valley by imposing curfew and restrictions, while on the other hand government is claiming to open schools from Monday", he pointed out and ridiculed decision of the government to allow school buses, carrying teaching and non teaching staff, to move and to treat identity of cards of the teaching and non teaching staff as curfew passes. "How many students and teachers used to travel in school buses?", he asked, adding, "only a few schools have their own buses to carry students and teachers while as majority of the students and teachers usually travel in public transportation which would not be allowed on the roads due to continue restrictions
PDP general secretary warned that such tactics of the government would not yield any result. "It is unfortunate that instead of changing their thinking and address aspirations of the people, political leadership is engaged into its own survival for the lust of power", he said.
