Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 25: The All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leadership does not believe that withdrawal of the AFSPA from some areas in the state and grant of economic and employment package to the people of Jammu and Kashmir will restore peace and normalcy to the valley.
"It cannot result in peace. Peace is linked with the settlement of the Kashmir issue," said a senior APHC leader, Prof.Abdul Gani Bhat.
He said that in the process of finding a solution to the Kashmir issue, the Government India needs to involve Pakistan and genuine representatives of the people of the Kashmir valley . "You cannot resolve the issue in isolation,"Bhat said.
He said that aspirations and the sentiments of the people of Kashmir could not be ignored and the solution to the problem has to be found as per the wishes of the people of th valley.
Asked about the sentiments and aspirations of the people of the regions of Jammu and Ladakh, Bhat said ," the aspirations of the people of the two regions also need to be recognised and given weightage.
Bhat said that he continued to be amazed over the approach of the Government of India towards the real problem. He said that revocation of the AFSPA and grant of economic and political package were not the basic issue.
"The basic issue is the resolution of the Kashmir problem,"he said.
In reply to another question, Bhat said that "implementation of four-point programme envisaged and dished out by former Pakistan President, Gen Parvez Musharraf, before he quit his office, was the only way to resolve the Kashmir issue."
Explaining it he said that joint managment, self-rule, making borders irrelevant and opening of more border routes for trade and travel were the ideal way for settling the Kashmir dispute. He claimed that Gen.Par vez Musharraf's programme would be welcome by people in the regions of Jammu and Ladakh.
aratists could devise some other way for restoring peace and normalcy to the state, he said "nothing else can be done except for settling the Kashmir issue." He said if the Government of India delayed resolving the Kashmir issue "I fear the situation in the valley may assume mor e serious dimensions than what Kashmir experinced during the last over three months."
