| GDC Bishnah begins series of college activities | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 25: Government Degree College (GDC) Bishnah today started series of college Activities for the session 2010-2011.
The first activity which the college has decided to undertake is week long Gandhi Jayanti celebration w2hic began today and would culminate on September 25, 2010. Chief Guest on the occasion was MLA Bishnah Ashwani Sharma and the guest of honour was Prof. Chander Mohan.
While speaking on the occasion, Ashwani Sharma highlighted relevance of Gandhian philosophy in the modern age and also spoke on the importance of curricular and co-curricular activities to be carried out in the educational institutions for building up confidence among students to face the world.
He also stressed on holding sports activities in the college to encourage students in the field of sports.
College also started the series of extension lectures on the occasion.
A prestigious lecture under the auspices of Department of English was delivered by Prof. Chander Mohan on "The Importance of Comparative Literature in Bilingual India". While focusing on essential characteristics of multilinguism in India, Prof. Mohan highlighted the relevance of comparative literature as a discipline in the colleges and Universities.
Earlier, Principal Prof. Veena Pandita released college activity calendar for the current session. She stressed that such activities help students to compete with the best and face the challenges of life.
She urged students to follow the foot steps of Gandhi and believe in peace and non-violence. Event started with the lighting of the traditional lamp.
The function came to an end with a vote of thanks by Dr. Suman Charak. |
