`Improved performance by Jr spikers in Asian meet' | | | Early times Report JAMMU, Sept 25: Though the Indian junior volleyball team could not qualify the group for knock-out stages, yet they gave an improved performance in the recently held 15th Asian Junior Women Volleyball Championship in Vietnam. This was stated by general secretary of the Volleyball Association of J&K, Kuldeep Magotra on his return to Jammu. Magotra accompanied the Indian team as manager. He disclosed that in the preliminarily round of league matches, India defeated Fiji in straight sets but lost to Chinese Taipei and Thialand resulting into team's early exist from the competition. "The match against Chinese Taipei remained a close contest with India losing the two of the three frames 18-25, 19-25. Later, in the second match, India trounced Fiji in straight sets 25-08, 25-12, 25-22 but could not control their nerves against Thialand and lost 16-25, 24-26, 17-25," said Kuldeep Magotra in a chat with SAN. However, later in classification of rounds, India defeated New Zealand 3-0 and trounced Australia 3-2. Later, the Indian side lost to Iran 3-0. "The young girls have to improve a lot in the element of serve to dominate in Asian volleyball. Rohini, Poornima and Nishya Joseph were good in floater and still they have to improve a lot in the area of using individual tactics. |
