| Vakil pleads for positive response to Center’s 8-point formula | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 26: Welcoming the 8-point formula proposed by centre for addressing the three-month long crisis in Kashmir, former Minister and Congress MLC Abdul Gani Vakil today urged the separatist leadership and other political groups across the state to respond positively. “This is a historic opportunity for bringing an end to the violence and bloodshed which has left hundreds, mostly families of youngsters, wailing. We sympathise with the families of those who lost their lives during the last three months and in the same breath, would appeal the people across Kashmir valley to ensure return of peace,” Vakil said while addressing a mammoth gathering of Congress Seva Dal workers at Dak Bunglow in Samba on Sunday. He implored upon the separatist leadership to shun rigid stands and demonstrate democratic flexibility. “Congress leadership has thorough understanding of the aspirations and desires of Kashmiri youth. It wants to lead the younger generation of Kashmir into a world of inestimable opportunities,” Vakil said. Vakil pleaded separatist leadership to shun path of confrontation. “Nothing can be achieved through violence, stone-pelting, loot and arson. We must accept that dialogue in a congenial atmosphere is the only way out of this quagmire, which has already brought us to the shores of economic disaster. We should act now and save the valley of roses from further death and destruction,” added Vakil. Vakil praised UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister P.Chidambram and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for taking every stakeholder in the Kashmir crisis on board before embarking on the mission of restoring permanent peace in Kashmir valley. “Congress leadership has showcased exemplary democratic spirit by respecting aspirations of people of all the three regions viz. Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh,” Vakil added. He cautioned people of Jammu region to remain vigilant against forces of disruption. “We must exhibit exemplary courage and restrain from following leaders and parties which are hell bent on dividing the society along religious and regional lines. Ayodhya verdict is likely to be delivered in the coming days and if it is a test for Indian democracy, it is also an opportunity for commoners across the country to exhibit highest degree of patience and resilience,” Vakil said. Others who spoke during the convention included Congress Seva Dal Chief Balvinder Singh Sambhyal, General Secretary of JKPCC Vinod Sharma and Organiser Seva Dal Naveen Nischal.
