| Centre’s eight-point agenda is Kashmir centric: PoK refugees | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 26: SOS International, an organisation of PoK refugees, on Sunday termed the eight-point agenda rolled out by the Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS) to deal with raging issues in the state as “expected and Kashmir centric.” In a press statement issued here, the chairman of the organisation, Rajiv Chuni welcomed the “humane” concern of the central government towards Kashmir but at the same time criticized the government’s “continuous” apathetic attitude towards PoK refugees in particular and the people of Jammu in general. “In the past also we saw constitution of PM’s working groups on Kashmir, round table conference and now all party parliamentary delegation’s visit to the state. At every step, Jammu and Ladakh were ignored and the focus was laid on Kashmir only,” he alleged. The refugee leader said, “Our first and foremost demand is resolution of PoK issue according to aspirations of the refugees. At Jammu, the parliamentary delegation made it a point to visit separatist leader Shabir Shah in the jail but the delegation did not bother to meet the PoK refugees whose issues have not been redressed since 1947.
Chuni further alleged that refugees were brutally cane charge and arrested when they wanted to meet the all party parliamentary delegation at Jammu. “CCS has asked the state government to immediately release all students and youth detained for stone pelting or similar violations of law besides suggesting ex-gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh per person killed in the civil disturbances since June 11 this year. However, there is criminal silence over the issues of refugees,” he said, adding “The Government has never bothered to compensate them.” “Still, we welcome the constitution of a separate committee for the settlement of issues facing Jammu and hope it will deliver upto the expectations of the people,” he said.
