Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 26: More than 6 dozen residents of Dhangri area of Rajouri are prone to lung infection and asthma like diseases as the pollution level created by the brick kilins running in the populated areas has reached at an alarming stage . The locals have even sought intervention of the administration to get these kilns closed forever in the area.
Sources said that there are at least 75 people in Dhangri area of Rajouri who are suffering from lung infection and asthma because they are living in close vicinity of Brick kilns, which according to locals are installed right in the middle of the village.
Although the villagers themselves did not notice the cause of the diseases, doctors working at district hospital, Rajouri say that such diseases occur due to the smoke and dust pollution.
It is pertinent to mention here that use of firewood and low quality coal in the brick kilns is causing massive air pollution resulting into health hazards.
Doctors said that they have examined more than 75 patients of village Dhangri with lungs infection and asthma. Doctors said majority among the sufferers are the children below the age group of 9-8 years which has alarmed red signal in the area.
Local leader Tazeem Dar said the local administration and Pollution Control board must come at the rescue of these people so that their lives are saved from dangerous diseases.
Although these kilns are not allowed to run in the populated areas, sources said that some industrialists managed all this by allegedly bribing the officials concerned. Sources said that it is the duty of the Pollution Control Board to check whether these kilns are legal or not, residents said that no official of PCB ever visited the village to enquire about these klins.
At least four kilns are running in village Dhangri for the past one and half decade . With the population of more than 5000 souls , the village Dhangri falls at the distance of some 10 kms away from Rajouri town .
When contacted District Mass Media Officer Sadiq Khan admitted that there are various patients in the Dhangri village who are suffering with lung infection and asthama. He said that not only Dhangri, there are various other places in the Rajouri where crushers are creating pollution and are turning fatal for the life of the residents. He said that although they have no role in checking this problem, the Pollution Control Board is the authority to check the legality of these klins.
“PCB is issuing No Objection Certificate and they are accountable for all this”, he said , adding that District Hospital had already
sent a team of doctors to the village and some people had complained about these klins.
