SCs facing govt apathy in J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu , Sept 27: SAYING that the Scheduled Castes in Jammu and Kashmir are granted only 8.5 per cent reservation in government jobs while it is 15 per cent in other parts of the country, BJP SC Morcha State President Chaman Lal Kanathia The reason why the SCs in the state are granted only 8.5 per cent reservation is due to the indifferent attitude of the state government towards them. He was chairing a meeting of morcha activists held at party hqrs. The meeting was called to chalk out the future course of action in view of the discrimination with the SCs. Chaman Lal Kanathia, on this occasion, said that in Jammu and Kashmir, the population of the members of Scheduled Caste community hail from Jammu province only. ``Had there been SCs in Kashmir or among the Muslims, the state government could have even gone beyond 15 per cent in granting them reservation. Not only this, the SCs in Jammu and Kashmir have to prove their identity again and again as the caste certificates they possess are declare invalid after every 10 to 12 years,’’ he further said. Kanathia said that the successive governments in the state have been Kashmir centric with least concern for Jammu, Ladakh and SCs, which constitute a major percentage of the population of state. He said even the Union government has not bothered to direct the state government to grant reservation to SCs on the pattern of other states. Expressing his views on the Kashmir situation and the UPA’s decision to announce 8 point formula, Kanathia said that only a handful of people in Kashmir has welcomed it while every one in Jammu and Ladakh has opposed it as it has been design to benefit a particular region of the state while other two important regions—Jammu & Ladakh have been ignored. The BJP Anusuchit Jaati Morcha too oposes it. He announced that Balwan Singh as District Prabhari for Jammu district and declared that the Anusuchit Jaati Morcha will organise a number of programmes of diferent modes throughout the Jammu province in the coming days against the fasilure of the State government in safe guarding the nation’s interests in the state as well as step-motherly treatment to Jammu and Ladakh. Appreciating the BJP’s stand on the burning issues of the state as well as the welfare of Schedule Castes, Bansi Lal Bharti, a senior SC leader & Morcha State Prabhari, said that he has been associated with the BJP for the last 35 years and his long experience in the politics has shown that it is the BJP only which has always stood for the welfare and upliftment of the down-trodden and the poors besides remaining front runner for the nation’s interests in this border state. SC Morcha former State President & Ex-Corporator Narsingh Dass Rajwal, while addressing the meeting, said that the need of the time is to make people aware that neither the present Congress-led UPA nor the NC-Congress coalition of the state have any concern for the SCs as their one point agenda is to please the seperatists and anti-national elements. Balbir Ram, Som Nath Dogra, Ashok Gandhi, Jeet Angral, Balwan Singh, Puran Chand Bhagat, Faqir Chand Azad, Rakesh Kumar, Hitesh Kumar and Raj Kumar were prominent among those who attended this meeting.,
