SC declines to adjourn delimitation case | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 27: Division Bench of Supreme Court comprising of A.K. Ganguly and G.S. Singhvi today rejected request of Jammu and Kashmir counsel to adjourn Delimitation case for four weeks while observing that state government cannot take court for a ride and the directions have to be implemented in letter and spirit. Division Bench fixed September 29, 2010 for final disposal of the Delimitation Case filed by Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) as an appeal against the order of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir. The last delimitation was held in Jammu and Kashmir in 1981 and there has been no Delimitation since then. Eight constituencies in Jammu region fall under reserved category and they have not been changed for the past 18 years. JKNPP moved a writ petition in the High Court seeking delimitation of the Assembly constituencies which was dismissed by the High Court though illegally. The Panthers Party filed an appeal in the Supreme Court in 2009 which is now being heard. Those advocates who assisted Prof. Bhim Singh included B.S. Billowria, Ritu Puri and Satish Vig.
