Champion Manipur, Haryana make winning start
56th National School Games Girls Football U-19

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 27: Defending champion, Manipur among five teams made a winning start in the league round of the five-day long 56th National School Games girls’ under-19 football, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at different venues, here today.
However, hosts J&K girls are yet to open their account when take on Delhi in group-A match tomorrow at MA Stadium at 9 am.
Except for Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh tie, which former won by five goals to nil, rest of the four matches remained neck and neck at different venues, here.
In all, 15 teams have turned up for the league cum knockout competition. Divided into four different groups, two teams from each pool shall make it to the knock-out stages of quarterfinals. Hosts J&K has been placed in group-A with Manipur, Punjab and Delhi being other teams.
The Results: Manipur bt Punjab 1-0; Chattisgarh bt Bihar 1-0; Haryana bt Tamil Nadu 1-0; Maharashtra bt Madhya Pradesh 5-0; Chandigarh bt Uttrakhand 1-0.
The competition was declared open by Minister for Sports, R S Chib in a well attended function at MA Stadium, here. Minister of State for Tourism, Revenue and PHE, Nasir Aslam Wani was guest of honour.
The chief guest highlighted the ongoing development of sports infrastructure in the state and lauded the working of DYSS.
Earlier, Director General DYSS, S A Leharwal welcomed the distinguished gathering and participating teams. It was followed by cultural programme. Among others present included senior officers of the department.
FIXTURE: (League) Haryana V/s Jharkhand at JU at 8.30 am; Madhya Pradesh V/s IPSC at MA Stadium-II at 8.30 am; J&K V/s Delhi at MA Stadium 9 am; Chattisgarh V/s Uttrakhand at JU at 10 am; Tamil Nadu V/s Goa at MA Stadium at 8 pm; Bihar V/s Chandigarh at MA Stadium-II at 3 pm; Maharashtra V/s IPSC at JU at 4.30 pm; Punjab V/s Delhi at MA Stadium at 4.30 pm.
