| Spotlights on Kashmiris' 'legitimate rights' | | Pak to support 'oppressed' Kashmiris: Shaukat Aziz | | B L KAK NEW DELHI, OCT. 28: Even as Pakistan President, Gen. Parvez Musharraf, has once again advocated the need for friendly relations between his country and India, Islamabad is not willing to suspend its support to the separatists in Kashmir. If there was any doubt about it, it was set at rest by the Pakistan Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz, during his visit to Muzafarrabad, capital of PoK (Pakistan ocupied Kashmir). Shaukat Aziz, while addressing a gathering of edarthquake survivors on Eid day, declared: "No one can deprive the Kashmiris of their rights and I tell them that every Pakistani will support them in their just struggle and they will achieve their rights". And the Pak Premier reiterated his government's asurance of continuing to support what he termed as "the oppressed Kashmiris in their struggle for their legitimate rights" Pakistan's English daily, Dawn, quoted Shaukat Aziz as saying: “We want the Kashmir issue to see a peaceful negotiated settlement, matching the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiris". He made it clear that Islamabad would not accept any settlement that went against the Kashmiris’ wishes. Recalling that Pakistani nation had demonstrated exemplary solidarity with the Kashmiris, he said: “Whenever the Kashmiris face any hardships, Pakistanis will be by their side to help them out". During Shaukat Aziz's stay in Muzaffarabad, a group of local people handed over a memorandum to the UN observers’ mission urging the world body to persuade India to fulfil its commitments regarding holding an impartial plebiscite in Kashmir. The event took place when a rally was held at Muzaffarabad against India's "invasion" of Kashmir in 1947. Speaking at the rally, Prime Minister of PoK, Attique Ahmad Khan, regretted that the people of Kashmir wanted to join Pakistan, but India sent its troops to Srinagar claiming that Dogra ruler, Maharaja Hari Singh, had signed a document to annex the Himalayan region with it. The PoK Prime Minister said that the "struggle" would continue till Kashmiris were given the right to self-determination.
