ERA working at snail pace; people made to suffer | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 27: The work of laying sewerage pipes by digging the roads in Paloura area of Jammu by the Economic and Reconstruction Agency (ERA) is not completed even after passage of last 10 months. ERA has been able to complete the laying of the pipes in only one kilometer of the total, when the entire project in the area is of more than 10 kilometers. The project has to be completed in 3 years. Locals alleged that the concerned agency is not taking it seriously. They further alleged that due to slow work, numbers of problems are being faced by the locals. It is pertinent to mention here that the maximum work of the laying the pipes is pending. Keeping in the view the very slow pace of the work, it will take far more time than the prescribed one resulting in the numerous problems for the local populace. Because of the digging of the road, the road is proving unfit for the vehicles including passenger vehicles. The markets of the area are also suffering losses because of the incompleteness of the road. They have to cover their all commodities to save them from the dust. This dust is also having its affect on the health of the shopkeepers. Besides, even after slight rain, the road used to get covered with mud and slime. This is for the first time that such type of sanitation project of “proper underground sewerage plan” is underway in the winter capital. These pipes are laid in the middle of the roads. Pertinently, same project has already been completed in many parts of the winter capital. MLA Chaman Lal Gupta, while talking on the issue said that at many places, the construction work was delayed in process of connecting the sewerage line with those coming from different narrow lanes and other sub-links. He hoped that the entire work would be completed within the stipulated time.
