Companies using religious symbols on product with impunity; govt mute spectator
9/27/2010 10:14:23 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 27: For their petty interests, many companies, including Indian and Multi National Companies (MNC’s), are using different religious symbols with impunity and playing with the emotions of the people while the government has turned mute spectator to this.
Some of these products included packets of “Bidies” having images of Hindu god Ganesha, fire crackers having images of Goddess Luxmi, packets of Agarbatti having images of the various gods and goddesses, tobacco products also having images of gods and goddesses. Numerous such examples can be cited in this regard.
The use of religious photos and symbols is not limited for only on these commodities, they are also seen on most of the invitation cards.
The companies use these religious symbols for increasing sale of their products. This generally hurts the common people.
Just have a glance over the sanitation system in the country and particularly in our state, wrappers of most of these products are seen in the garbage bin and on the roads and on footpaths. Is this a kind of tribute to the god from these companies?
Social activist and Congress activist Darshan Lal Raina said that the use of these religious symbols should be totally banned and strict action should be taken against those involved in the misuse of religious symbols. There should be provision of punishment for the defaulters to stop the misuse.
He also criticized different religious organizations for taking this seriously and politicking on the petty issues.
