9/27/2010 10:15:02 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 27: Much hyped, Kala Kendra that was constructed for upliftment of cultural activities in Jammu and to become one of the cultural hubs has no one to take its proper care.
If the present situation prevails, one of the state of the art building in Jammu region will soon lose its identity.
Kala Kendra, which is supposed to display ancient paintings and other tools and symbols of the state, is crying on the official apathy being meted to it.
The ground and the first floor of the building was provided to Art and Culture Department, which is performing the duty but the Archeological Department which has been allotted the second floor of the building is least bothered to check the aspirations and needs of art lovers.
For the conservation of the precious ancient paintings and many others tools, the second floor of the Kala Kendra was handed over to the Archeology Department. But the department is least concerned to use the building for the building for the promotion of art these days. Only Basohli paintings are on the display in the building.
If the department will not pay attention towards its maintaining, the situation will become worse.
They have done least to attract the art lovers, as is evident from the fact that from last five years, the department has organized two functions only.
The negligence of the department of the state has made the situation, that from the last month no tourist has visited the Kala Kendra.
Director Kala Kendra, Mohammed Ashraf, when contacted, said that they were going to organize a function in the building but due to the conditions prevailing in the Kashmir region, our planning was not materialized.
He further added that they are going to shift the library situated in the Mubarak Mandi complex soon in Kala Kendra and the proposal in this regard has been already sent to the higher authorities.
