Yechury parries question on his being Kashmir interlocutor | | | AGENCIES COIMBATORE, Sept 27: CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury today parried questions about the possibility of his being one of the interlocutors on Kashmir issue. "I have no such indication. I have not heard anything so far. First, let it come. If at all, they will ask, then we shall see", Yechury told reporters here. He, however, pointed out that CPI(M) was a member of the all-party delegation that had gone to Kashmir Valley recently because "this is an issue for the country as a whole. This is not an issue confined to any particular state. It's a larger issue of India's unity and integrity". Yechury said the Centre should urgently implement the eight-point initiative on Jammu and Kashmir so that people should see a change early there. Many Kashmiris had left the Valley because of the government's "failure" to implement the promises made earlier. A holistic confidence should be created among the population of Kashmir who wanted normalcy to be returned, he said. Yechury, who was part of the delegation which had visited the state recently, said had the government sent the delegation before Ramzan, the situation would have eased and been normal, which could have also avoided the loss of so many lives. |
