EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 27: Those at the helm in New Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir are expressing their solidarity with those got killed or injured during the clashes between the police and paramilitary forces and the followers of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and others. The so-called human rights activists and a number of "think-tanks" and media persons are also doing the same and denouncing the paramilitary forces and the state police. They are also describing what is going on in the Kashmir valley as "civil disturbances." The attitude of Pakistan has been no different. It is on expected lines.
Neither the authorities in New Delhi nor the Delhi-based think-tanks, "human rights" activists and the biased media persons have raised even their little finger against those who deliberately confronted the security forces and the state police at the behest of their masters in and outside Kashmir and disturbed the entire Kashmir Valley not for the people's cause but for furthering their personal agendas and agenda of Pakistan. In fact, the authorities in New Delhi, "human rights" activists and others have described rioters, arsonists and separatists "innocents, unarmed and peaceful."
There is no denying the fact that more than 100 persons, mostly young men, lost their lives between June 11 and till date. But the question to be asked is: What led to their killing? Did not they attack the security forces and the state police? They did attack them and in the process they got killed and injured. The security forces and the state police did not kill them in their houses and within the school, college and university premises. They got killed during the pitched battles - battles engineered by the likes of Geelani and Mirwaiz. The security forces and the state police observed restraint to the maximum possible extent. They opened fire either in self-defence or when the things got out of control.
Did not those got killed and injured attack and destroy public and private property and burnt down government and private vehicles? They did attack and destroy the public and private property and burnt down government and private vehicles. They caused enormous damage. Was it not the duty of the security forces and the state police to act against them and establish the rule of law? It was their duty. Had not they discharged their duty braving all odds, including threat to their life and limb, they would have been regarded as sinners; they would have faced the official wrath; they would have been even suspended for dereliction of duty; and legal proceedings would have been initiated against them.
Did not the motivated and indoctrinated youth, accompanied by some females, deliberately violated curfew to provoke the security forces and the state police and cause a serious law and order problem, despite the warning that action would be taken against those who would violate curfew? Did not they in the process pelt stones on the security forces and the state police? Yes, they did violate the curfew and throw stones (read sharp-edged boulders that were more lethal than the arms) on the security forces and the state police. It was clear that such violations and attacks would be dealt with as per the law and as per the exigency of the time. The paramilitary forces and the state police swung into action only when it had become imperative. Had not the security forces and the state police acted, the situation would have completely gone out of control and the beneficiaries would have been Islamabad and the likes of Geelani and Mirwaiz, who feel comfortable when the common Kashmiri suffer.
Did not those who violate curfew repeatedly, pelt sharp-edged boulders and burnt down the public and private property raise pro-independence and anti-India slogans or did they not deliberately pollute the environment in Kashmir by indulging in rabidly anti-India activities all aimed at wrecking the Indian state and communalizing everything in Kashmir? They did all that they could to vitiate the atmosphere in the Kashmir Valley and wreck the Indian State. Was it not the duty of the paramilitary forces and the state police deployed by the civil administration itself to deal with them as per the law of the land and maintain law and order? It was their lawful duty.
And, why the way, how many persons got injured during the clashes with the paramilitary forces and the state police? According to official figures, the total number of those who were injured during the clashes with the paramilitary forces and the state police is 504. The break-up is like this: Baramulla district 182, Srinagar district 156, Pulwama district 47, Budgam district 32, Anantnag district 31, Kupwara district 21, Shopian district 13, Bandipora district 10, Ganderbal district 8 and Kulgam district 4.
