EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Sept 27: Following 12 days curfew, Mendher is returning to normalcy with notification issued for opening of all offices today. However, all the office started work from zero as all the records from 1947 to 2010 have been turned into ashes in the recent agitation of locals in the area.
Administration in Mendher had lifted curfew in the town from 11 am onwards today and had issued instructions to all offices and schools to resume work. Although there was low presence of the officials attending duty of students attending schools, life returned to normal in the area after at least 12 days curfew. Administration is going to relax curfew on Tuesday from 10 am and it is likely to be lifted on Wednesday if everything goes normal.
"We had issued instructions to the officers to return on duty and has also issued orders to the school administrations to resume work today which was responded positively by the concerned", Sub Divisional Magistrate Mendher Choudhary Mukhtar Ahmed said. He added that they are going to lift curfew after 10 am tomorrow and will lift on Wednesday if everything goes normal.
However, on the other hand when the officials returned to their duty, they reportedly started work from zero as not even a single office has succeeded in saving the record from the fire during the recent agitation. Sources said that all records of revenue from 1947 to 2010 have turned into ashes. The condition of all other departments except health and education was similar to that of revenue.
As per officials of revenue department, the recent incident has landed Mendher back at 1947 position when people started work on the records pertaining to revenue.
When contacted, SDM Mendher admitted that they have been landed in 1947 position as they have no records pertaining to any department. He said that although the officials joined their duties, they started work from zero. "We will try to collect copies of records from other district offices but till the time we have to start work from zero", he said adding that it will take more than two years to somehow streamline the records in Mendher. "We have to work hard and streamline all departments", he said.
The offices today opened in temporary tents in the Mendher. While maximum of them have still not get the tent. Only Public Health Engineering, Roads and Buildings and Revenue departments have managed to get tents who on Monday remained busy in installing these tents. There were no chairs, tables or files in these tents. It were more looking like tents for the flood affected people.
SDM Mendher said that they have managed some tents for the offices however they have given orders for more tents. "These tents are expected to be delivered to us tomorrow and after that we will be able to get all the offices operationalise", he added.
