Shrine Board to provide 5000 heavy quilts to Leh flood hit | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 28: The first lot of about 1300 heavy quilts, out of the 5,000 announced by the Governor,. N. N. Vohra, for being provided to the flood affected people in Ladakh reached Leh today. The Governor, on the conclusion of his 3-day visit to Leh district last month, had announced that the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board would provide 5,000 heavy quilts for distribution among the needy flood-affected population of Leh district. On the instructions of the Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, the Chief Executive Officer of the Board,. R. K. Goyal had dispatched a team of the Board officers headed by Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, Additional Chief Executive Officer to various manufacturing units in Punjab to procure specially designed heavy quilts for the flood affected families. The quilts, timely procured, are now being made available to the District Administration for immediate distribution among the affected people to meet the rapidly advancing harsh winter in Ladakh. Goyal disclosed that three trucks carrying 1296 quilts reached Leh today while another installment of nearly 900 quilts is scheduled to reach Leh shortly. He added that the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, has been requested to early commence the distribution of these quilts to the identified beneficiaries.
