Leh facing acute shortage of labourers | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 28: Believe it or not but the ravaged and ruined Leh is facing an extreme shortage of labourers for completing relief and rehabilitation work at the earliest. Sources said that after the floods, most of the labourers returned to their homes. They added that in Leh, most of the labour comes from Nepal, Doda, Bihar and Punjab. Leh was considered to be a mini Kuwait for labourers form others part of the country. Here the labourers would easily get work and would be paid handsome wages. This year due to flood in the month of August, almost all the labourers form outside Leh returned home two months prior to their schedules departure. Leh has been facing acute shortage of Labourers at a time when the region need more labour. Authorities in Leh are now approaching Doda, Kargil and other places in the state to import labour so that the shortage of labour could be compensated. The authorities are now giving more incentive to labour to attract them. Earlier a simple labourer would earn between RS. 250 to Rs. 300 and after the present crisis, he now gets around Rs. 450 with meal.
