| Basotra advocates for modifying Reservation Act | | | JAMMU OCT-28- The State Unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has strongly advocated for modifying Reservation Act 2004 and implementation of Mandal Commission Report in Jammu and Kashmir in its totality. The Party General Secretary Krishan Basotra in a handout regretted that instead of providing benefits to the OBCs, the Reservation Act has done more harm to them. He said the OBCs, according to the Constitution of India, are those castes, which are socially and educationally backward other than SC/STs, but the Jammu and Kashmir Government has totally changed this concept and declared residents of Backward Area and Actual line of Control as OBCs, which is a clear violation of the Constitution. He also criticized the government for issuing OBC certificates on the basis of profession, while such certificates throughout the country are issued on caste basis. Urging the government to modify the existing Reservation Act, the BSP leader sought 27 per cent reservation to real OBCs (Social caste) in recruitment, admission in professional colleges and promotions adding that RBA and ALC should be excluded from OBC. He also pleaded for granting age relaxation to OBC candidates in recruitments on the pattern of SCs / STs.
