3 killed, 9 hurt in sumo mishap | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 28: Three persons were killed and nine others, including five women, wounded critically when the Tata sumo cab in which they were travelling skidded off the road and plunged into a 500-ft-deep gorge near Banihal, about 200 km from here on the Jammu-Srinagar road, today. The mishap took place at about 11 am when the ill-fated sumo (JK14/0719) was on its way from Chaknawa village to Banihal town, police sources said. The cab skidded off the road on a sharp curve and fell into the gorge, the sources added. Shahjahan (38), son of Gulam Mohammad, and Mohammad Yasin (40), son of Abdul Aziz, were killed on the spot. They hailed from Chaknawa. The injured were removed to the Banihal hospital by locals, who were later joined by police. Fareed Ahmad (32), son of Jamal Din of Chaknawa, succumbed to his wounds in the hospital. The injured were identified as Shahjahan's daughter Noosrat, brother Mohammad Fareed, Ghulam Mohammad, son of Qadir, Maqsooda Begum, wife of Javed Iqbal, Razia, wife of Zahoor Ahmad, Nishada, wife of Fareed Ahmad, Tasleem Ahmad, son of Abdul Rashid, Sakina, daughter of Mohammad Amin and sumo driver Shakil Ahmad. Ghulam Mohammad, Noosrat and Shakil were later referred to the Soura hospital in Srinagar following deterioration in their condition. Police had registered a case in this connection.
