Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 28: Among 56 total employees of Revenue department of Mendher, only Tehsildar managed to buy a chair and a table from his own pocket to start his office under the shade of Chinar tree.
All offices in Mendher, including revenue office were set ablaze by the protestors on September 15 when 3 protestors were killed by police in the firing.
Tehsil office Mendher has total 56 employees. Although few among them were seen attending their duties today only one employee-Tehsildar Dev Raj seemed seated on a plastic chair which too not in a decorated court room but under the shade of Chinar tree with debris of previous office lying here and there in the ground.
The offices started functioning in the town after 12 days from Yesterday. Some offices have got the tents while few are yet to get it. Tehsil Office among such offices which is still shelterless.
When contacted Tehsildar Mendher Dev Raj said that they are likely to get the tent within few days. He said that to initiate the work he did not wait for government chair. “I went to the market and bought a plastic chair and a table to atleast run his own office”, DC Raj said, adding, he opened his open air office under the shade of a Chinar Tree in the tehsil premises. “There is still debris of my office lying on the ground and not even a single chair, table or file could have been saved by them”, he said.
Although 72 people visited Tehsildar today, he could not help perfectly to anybody. Reason was simple. He had no record to cross check and issue certificates. “People came to me for income and other certificates but I could not help them till I cross check their record and as soon as I will not get the copy of their record I cannot issue any certificate”, he said, adding that he had told all Patwaries to copy Jamabandi and other records and start exercise from zero. He said that people will suffer too much due to burning of revenue record. “They have to wait till we get some record copies”, he said.
About streamlining of the revenue record, Tehsildar said that it will take 4 to 5 years to streamline the department. “We have to start work afresh”, he said, adding that even if they succeeded to streamline the department in 4 or 5 years, people even though will face problems because 63 years of record could not be managed in few years.
Meanwhile 8 hours relaxation in curfew was given today from 12 pm to 7 pm. Although administration had said that they are going to lift day curfew on Wednesday, sources said that it will be extended till decision of Allahabad High Court on September 30 over Ramjanabhoomi-Babri Masjid land title issue.
