Parents perturbed over out breaking of fresh violence in Kashmir | HIMALAYAN FEATURES | | Early Times Repot Jammu, Sept 28: With violence continuing in Kashmir Valley and frenzy mob making the school buses target at different places, the parents of school going children are totally perturbed over the security of their wards. The people in Kashmir Valley had heaved a sigh of relief after the Union Government announced its 8-point peace initiative for Kashmir two days back asking the management of both private and public schools to run their educational institutions so that the career of the students whose studies have been totally affected is not put at stake. Though a cross section of the Kashmiri people including the members of the civil society welcomed the initiative of the Union Government but the eruption of violence on the opening day of schools in Kashmir Valley coupled with the call of separatists calling for closure of educational institutions has led to a lot of confusion among the parents who are in a fix whether to send their children to schools or not. According to Javed Ahmed Dar a businessman in Srinagar whose two sons are studying in a reputed private educational institute, the Government has asked the management to open the schools and issued orders to authorities to allow the school children and teaching staff to move during curfew hours as well, but who will protect them from agitating mob. There is no guarantee to the students from the violent mob, he said, adding how can parents put the lives of their children at risk if school buses are subjected to stone pelting by the mob. Dar said after the yesterday’s violence when school buses were attacked at different places in the Valley, maximum parents decided not to send their children to schools with the result there was a low attendance in educational institutions today. ``We fully welcome the 8 -point formula of Union Government as well as the initiative taken by the coalition in the state to open the educational institutions in the Valley as the future of the student community is at stake but educational institutions will not open and start functioning with making of statements only on TV or in news papers’’ said Mohammed Abdullah a private school teacher in Srinagar. ``There should be a strong will in transforming the actions into deeds which I think the coalition Government totally lacks; he added. He said it would have remained better for the Government to call the meeting of prominent citizens of the Valley, heads of various social and religious organizations, public representatives and members of the civil society to seek their cooperation in restoring peace and normalcy in the Valley. Involving the members of civil society in restoration of peace in Kashmir would have automatically made the anti-social elements irrelevant. But present Government has not taken any initiative in this regard till date, he added. Supporting his views Ghulam Hasrat Shah an educationist asked who is responsible to put the Valley on fire again which was by and by trying to recover from last 20 years of turmoil. The main reason of the present crisis is that the leadership of the coalition had lost contact with the masses and the separatists took its full advantage in exploiting the people, he added.
