PDP top level meet resolves to stand by the people | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: A joint meeting of senior leaders and legislature party of Peoples Democratic Party was held here today under the chairmanship of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. It took stock of the current situation in the state caused by the reign of terror unleashed by the government against the people. Expressing disgust at the inability of the government to function except as a source of discomfort, destabilization, atrocities and outright terror for the people, the meeting resolved to stand by the people in this hour of grave crisis. The participants pointed out how the government was adding further to the miseries of the people by trying to hide the real situation here caused by the killing of 109 innocent persons, mostly youth and children in 100 days. The unwarranted imposition of curfew in Kashmir and Mendhar looked like a tool of collective punishment. Similarly, by politicizing the functioning of educational institutions the government had not only complicated an unfortunate loss of academic activity, it was clear that the government would stoop to any level for creating wrong impressions about the actual situation, the leaders pointed out. It was stated at the meeting that police was continuing its crackdown on innocent youth and they were being arrested in scores even as an impression was being created that they were being released. The party patron and president briefed the meeting about recent developments leading up to and following the All Party Meeting held in New Delhi. They urged the leaders and legislators to continue identifying with the people who are in distress as a result of the killings, injuries, curfew, crackdowns and arrests which have led to a total dislocation of life now for about four months. Apart from party president Mehbooba Mufti, senior leaders including Muzaffar Hussein Baig, Maulvi Iftikhar Hussein Ansari, Abdul Aziz Zargar, Qazi Mohammad Afzal, vice president Tarlok Singh Bajwa and general secretary, Balbir Singh and MLAs and MLCs participated in the meeting.
