Early Times Report
Ganderbal, Sept 29: Asserting that his government would continue to facilitate dialogue between the Centre and various shades of political opinion in the State, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that his government would act as bridge in improving Indo-Pak relations.
“Let us feel our responsibilities towards the society and the State and shun the tactics of disturbing peace and marring the education and economy of the State,’’ the Chief minister said and called for taking peaceful political course through a dialogue process to ventilate political opinions and grievances. He said “it is most unfortunate that the perpetrators of lockouts and closing down of schools are ensuring education of their sons and daughters outside the State but have no care for the education of the children of common people”.
Omar said that while in office as the Chief Minister, he has continuously and categorically advocated political addressing of political issues of the State. “I also campaigned vigorously for restoring internal and external dialogue channels to find out lasting solution to all issues as per the aspirations of the people”, he added.
Addressing Rural Gram Sabha, participated by thousands of ruralits at Ganderbal today, the Chief Minister said that his government would continue to act as an important catalyst in the peace process.
The Chief Minister said that he has sought public mandate in 2008 Assembly Elections on development issues and never made any promise about resolution of K-issue. “However, I am the first Chief Minister who strongly campaigned for addressing political issues of Jammu and Kashmir politically taking all shades of opinion on board”, he said. Omar said he has voiced the importance of this aspect at various forums in Delhi and also in the State before the Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson.
Omar Abdullah said that his government would continue to work positively in this direction so that the issues are settled once for all. “I have always flagged the role of separatists in the settlement of political issues of the State and paved the way for dialogue channel between them and the Centre. However, separatists never helped in creating a peaceful atmosphere to move ahead on the subject purposefully”, he maintained.
The Chief Minister said that his persistent advocacy and campaign for gradual reduction of the foot prints of forces in the State and softening of ASFPA provisions had started yielding results, but the law and order situation created by certain elements in the Valley during last over three months has given considerable set back to his endeavours in this regard. “However, I will continue to work in this direction despite all odds”, he said.
Omar Abdullah said that on taking over the charge of the State, he concentrated on creating employment opportunities for youth and kick-started multi-pronged development activities to upgrade infrastructure and enhance facilities in the five important sectors of health, education, communication, water supply and power.
The Chief Minister said that the three months law and order situation in the Valley has caused loss of job opportunities for about 50000 youth in the private sector. He said he had persuaded the big business houses and investors in private sectors to launch projects in the State and employ locals. “Many private companies had already announced launch of their projects in Kashmir and many were in preparation to do so, but the disturbance and law and order situation has discouraged them badly”, he said.
Welcoming the eight-point package announced by the Union Government to address Jammu and Kashmir issues, the Chief Minister expressed the confidence that the group of interlocutors for political dialogue would interact with all shades of opinion so that ‘unique’ solution is sought for the unique Jammu and Kashmir situation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Rural Development, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that despite nefarious propaganda against the government, considerable forward movement has been registered in the development sector on all fronts. “Inspite of lockouts and law and order situations created by vested interests, government has reached out to people in every area so far as basic amenities were concerned”, he said adding that the Chief Minister himself visited every district and various tehsils to hear the grievances of people.
The Minister of State for Housing, Nasir Aslam Wani, the Minister of State for Power, Ajaz Ahmad Khan, the Advisors to the Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul and Davinder Singh Rana and legislator Ali Mohammad Bhat also spoke on the occasion.
