Ramban drought hit to be rehabilitated soon.Bhalla | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu,Sept 30: Minister for Revenue,Raman Bhalla said that a comprehensive report would be formulated regarding the extent of damage to the crops because under the National Calamity Fund those farmers were entitled to compensation who had suffered over 50 per cent loss to their crops.He said besides compensation the Government was trying to provide relief to the farmers whose crops had been hit by natural calamity.
Besides submitting District Development Commissioners an interim report on the extent of damage caused to the crops and fruit as a result of drought and floods in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, the Revenue Department has urged the concerned Government agencies to expedite relief and compensation to the farmers whose produce had been hit by heavy rains,drought and floods. Bhalla said preliminary reports have revealed that in certain areas of the Kashmir valley and several pockets in the region of Jammu had been hit by floods,heavy rain and drought need immediate relief and compensation. Referring to the land erosion and landslide,which caused major devatation in Dharam area of Ramban district, .Bhalla said that he had talked to Chief Minister,Omar Abdullah, who agreed to provide immediate relief to the affected families. He said the Chief Minister had also agreed that alternate arrangements were being made for rehabilitating over four hundred people who had to be evacuated after the area was hit by major land erosion problem. In reply to a question, Bhalla said that as far as cloudburst and flood disaster in Leh was concerned, the problem was being taken care by both the state and the central Governments. He said the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has already contributed Rs.125 crores as aid tohe flood victims in Leh and heavy aid,in cash and kind, was flowing from not only various Government agencies but from NGOs and other private organisations. He said various newspapers at the national level had launched a drive for collecting aid for the Leh flood victims. Bhalla said that the state Government will not allow the labour shortage to hit reconstruction work in Leh. He expressed his deep appreciation to the troops, deployed in Leh, for their valuable services they had rendered while carrying out rescue, relief and rehabilitation work in the flood hit areas. He said to her Government departments besides the district development commissioners have been asked to prepare fresh loss assessment report so that after tabulation of all the reports the final report could be sent to the centre for payment of compensation to those farmers whose produce had been hit by floods and drought
