Dental students call off “Fast unto death”; dharna continues | | | EARLY TIMES REPOR JAMMU, Sept 30: The students of Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) observing hunger strike since seven days in support of their long pending demand of recognition of the IGGDC by the Dental Council of India (DCI), today called off their “Fast unto death” on the assurance of the Minister for Medical Education, Youth, Sports and Services R S Chib. Howeve,r their peaceful “dharna” continued even today on 52nd day. Talking here, one of the students, Dr Abhishek, said that the protesting doctors today received a phone call from R S Chib who assured them of positive considerations of their demands. Chib had invited a delegation of the doctors tomorrow to discuss their demands. It was also learnt that the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad assured the doctors that the IGGDC would get recognition of DCI by tomorrow. He also said that about 30 students were observing peaceful dharna in support of their demands. It is pertinent to mention here that the Indira Gandhi Dental College, Jammu which started in 2004 but due to the lack of the staff and infrastructure, this college was de-recognized by Dental Council of India (DCI).
