BJP lashes out at Omar’s statement | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, SEPT 30: The BJP has ridiculed the claims of the ruling leaders of the National Conference as also those of the Congress that there was no regional discrimination against Jammu or with Ladakh and they were extending equal treatment towards all, the three regions of the State. Sharply reacting over the recent statement of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and certain other leaders of the Coalition, the leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta regretted that even after the indictment by the certain Commissions including one that of Gajendergadkar, retired Chief Justice of India, and others, leaders of the National Conference and their fellow travelers in the Congress with their communally infected mindset are still harping that they are fair to all the regions and the all people were being given their due share. In this regard, Prof. Gupta alleged that the discrimination had begun with the arbitrary delimitation of Assembly and even in the Panchayat Halqas. He pointed out Jammu is having almost double the geographical area and nearly equal number of electorates but still Jammu was given just 37 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats. With this arbitrary allotment of the political dispensation the regions of Jammu and Ladakh have been virtually enslaved politically and this regional subjugation has resulted in numerous problems and deprivation leading to regional tensions. Not only at the Lok Sabha and Assembly level even in the carving out of the Panchayat Halqas Jammu region has been given less number of Panchayats and local bodies although the number of villages and those of towns in Jammu region is more than those in the Valley of Kashmir. Thus, Jammu is being discriminated against in the allotment of funds because these basic democracies form basis for the allotment of developmental funds at the State and at the Central level. The BJP leader quoting figures for the allotment of developmental funds pointed out that at the Central level too, how the Congress leadership is discriminating against Jammu, can be judged from the fact that some once back the Union Minister allotted Rs. 1100 Crore for Wullar Lake, about Rs. 700 crore for Dul Lake, Rs. 2500 Ccrore for developmental activities along River Jhelum but just Rs. 3 crore for Mansar Lake and Rs. 25 crore for Jammu Tawi. Lashing at the 8-point Peace Formula of the Centre for Kashmir, the BJP leader was highly critical of it pointing out that those who were killed in violence in the Valley are being given relief of Rs. 5 lakh in each case but it was strange that no assistance has been given so far to those who were killed in 2008 land-row in Jammu and also no relief to the traders and others who had suffered heavily during this agitation despite promises.
