Bandh disrupts normal life in Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 30: Normal life was crippled in Jammu today following a call given by BJP against the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram's eight point agenda on Kashmir issue
Shops and business establishments were closed and traffic remained off the roads in the city in support of the call.
Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, Akhnoor, Sunderbani, Reasi, Katra, Chenani, Hirangar, Lakhanpur and Nourshera areas observed a complete bandh in support of the call.
However, the bandh passed off peacefully across the region. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere during the bandh.
The state government schools recorded thin attendance and offices also wore deserted look. The banking institutions, remained closed due to half year closing.
The transport services remained off the roads and only long route buses were seen on the roads. The major business markets in and around Jammu also remained closed while educational institutions had announced holiday in view of the bandh call.
Attributing the bandh primarily to the centre's eight point formula, BJP State President, Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters here, "The bandh is to protest against the Kashmir-centric 8-point formula formulated to save Omar government in order to appease separatists."
Besides this, the bandh is in protest against policies of the Congress-led UPA and NC-Congress government, where by Jammu has been ignored and discriminated in all field, he alleged.
Demanding the dismissal of the Omar Abdullah government, he said that the state government has failed on all fronts. It is an open secret that package after package were announced for Kashmir since 1947 after change of the seat of power from Jammu to Kashmir, not even a single package was announced for Jammu people.
Meanwhile, he thanked Bar Association, Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Panun Kashmir, Panthers Party, Kranti Dal, All State Kashmir Pandit Conference, Shiv Sena (United), Shiv Sena (Bal Thackrey), Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch, Student Scholars, Joint Action Committee, Migrant Cell & Joint forum of Kashmiri Pandits, Arorabans Sabha, Sanatan Dharam Natak Samaj, National Sikh Front, Jammu West Assembly Movement, Jai Jawan-Jai Kissan Kandi Area Development Committee, all the Transport, Travel, Hotel, different Biradharis and sabhas and all associations of different bazars for extending full cooperation with the present bandh.
The party activists were also taken into custody from a number of places in Jammu city and its adjoining areas.
Supporting the bandh call, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) working chairman and former minister, Harsh Dev Singh told here that Omar Abdullah government has failed on the ground as it has lost credibility among the people.
"Omar Abdullah is on the chief minister's chair on clutches of New Delhi. There is no government seen on the ground," he said.
