Court grants 5-days police remand to then CAPD official | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 1: Special Judge Anticorruption, Jammu, AK Koul today granted five days police remand of then store-keeper, CAPD, Udhampur Babu Ram who was allegedly involved in Rs 35 lacs misappropriation of foodgrains and was arrested by the Crime Branch and produced in the Court for seeking custodial remand for further investigation. According to the FIR that a letter duly forwarded by Director CAPD Jammu was received in Crime Branch, Jammu alleging therein that on spot inspection of Food Store, Udhampur by Senior Officers, huge quantity of food grains/ sugar were found short, upon this a team of officers were constituted for physical verification of food store, Udhampur to work out the actual shortage of food-grains/ sugar against the concerned store-keeper. The committee submitted its report on August 7, which revealed shortage of quantity of foodgrain/ sugar, the cost of which worked out to tune of Rs 35,06,099 as per the present PDS rates. Upon this, the Crime Branch, Jammu registered a case against Babu Ram, then Incharge store-keeper food-store Udhampur for allegedly misusing his official position and in conspiracy with other officials has misappropriated an amount of Rs 35,06,099.
