Fissures in village Dharam continue to widen

Jammu, Oct 1: The fissures in village Dharam in Sangaldan-Gool area of district Ramban continued to widen even today and 15 crores of damage has been assessed by the team of District administration which is made to access the loss.
Talking here , District Development Commissioner (DDC) K B Magotra, said that these cracks were widened today to one to three metres at many places thus making the situation worse.
He also said that district administration had provided relief and rehabilitation material, including utensils, tents. Ration for one month has also been provided to the affected families by the district administration.
Magotra, further, said that a three member team of Department of Geology and Mining has been camping at the site of the fissures that is Batpora hamlet of Dharam area. They would also hold a meeting with the district administration after their two days survey.
About the total losses due to the fissures, he said that that a team of district administration appointed for assessing the damages informed that about damage has been occurred to the tune of Rs 15 crores, including damages to the crops also.
Over 47 structures have been destroyed due to the landslides and fissures including a mosque, primary school and a water reservoir.
At some places in the Dharma, cracks has been reported to have widened to three and four metres today.
DDC Ramban Magotra further said that the Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Raman had announced that the affected people would be settled at safer places on the plots of 5 marlas. The team appointed under the chairmanship Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) would require at least 15 kanals of land; they have also identified the land at some places which would be finalized soon.
When asked about the reasons of the fissures and the landslides, Magotra attributed it to the loose soil and recent incessant rains.
