JU charging funds to fill coffers

Jammu, Oct 1: Many projects for the welfare of the student community of the Jammu University has been deferred for want of sufficient funds.
While on the other hand, there are many funds being charged from the students of various in educational institutes affiliated with the Jammu University, without accountability and any justification.
There are about JU has a strength of about 89,000 students in different colleges and different institutions at present.
Jammu University charges Rs 1000 as pool fund from each and every student. Total Pool fund received annually by the Jammu University amounted to a total of about
Rs 8, 90, 00,000.
Besides taking a large number of funds from the college and university students, the administration has now started taking an insurance fund of Rs 50 from the each student.
Whereas JU administration also hefts a sum of Rs 1000 as pool fund from each student every year which makes. It is the duty of the state government to govern these funds whenever necessary.
The insurance fund of Rs 50, which is now taken from the students also make this total to a new height adding a sum of Rs 44,50,000 every year.
Students stated that whether this insurance is not drawn from Pool fund as the insurance is required only on rare occasion. Not only this, there are also many other funds of this type that irks student community.
Ramnik Kour, a student of GCW, Gandhi Nagar said “the college administration charges extra money besides the fee structure and the examination fee as notified by the JU administration and this new made fund is just filling its coffers”.
Registrar Jammu University Dr P S Pathania, contacted, said that the funds were being decided by the higher committees of JU. He further added that pool fund and insurance funds were used separately and the pool fund could not be used in place of the insurance, these funds had their utilities of their own.
