PHE playing with lives of Rajouri people
DC, DIG, SSP supplied snake contaminated water
10/1/2010 9:10:21 PM

Early Times Report
Rajouri, Oct 1: It sounds bizarre but it true that Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police and other district officers were drinking contaminated water as a dead snake was recovered from the VIP pipeline here on Friday. The line is also source of water to the residents living in Ward no 2 area of thee town.
Sources said that the water pipeline of Public Health Engineering Department, Rajouri found contaminated with dead snake.
The supply line is meant for water supply to the VIP’s including Deputy Commissioner GA Khawaja, DIG SD Singh Jamwal, SSP RK Jala, Executive Engineer R&B BR Chadgal and various other government officers residing in DC Colony Rajouri. Local residents of Ward no 2 are also getting drinking water from the same pipeline which was found contaminated.
Sources said that when these officers informed PHE engineers about non-supply of water, they swung into action and started checking the line from the water source. They were surprised that they are regularly supplying water from the source and the pipe might have got blocked at some place. However, it shocked them when the team on mission found a long dead snake in the pipe. The snake had exactly blocked the supply of water to the VIPs and residents.
The team pulled out the snake from the pipe and water started flowing in full pressure. Although water supply has been restored, fingers are being raised on the functioning of PHE department.
Sources said that there are open water sources in the area and PHE has failed to cover these sources. This is not the first case when dead animals or reptiles are found in the water sources or pipes. Some dead monkeys were earlier found in a tanker supplying water to various residents in border area of Rajouri recently.
Sources added that the water in this pipeline is supplied from Pumping Station, Darhali Morh and the snake might have traveled about 2 kilometer in the pipe.
Sources said that the snake might have entered from the “uncovered” pipeline at source and the same blocked water when there was connection of narrow pipe in the area.
The residents of the area have shown anger over the recovery of dead snake from the water pipeline. They said that they could not trust on PHE as they have seen the condition of VIP line. “How we will be assured that common man are being supplied pure water when PHE failed to do same for their own officers”, a resident said demanding high level enquiry into the recovery of the snake. “This is a serious matter and is directly related to the life and death of man so administration should atleast order magisterial enquiry into it”,
The Assistant Executive Engineer of the department who was monitoring the mission pulling snake said that the source of water in Darhali area is covered and the water is being supplied to the area after filtration. He said that the snake has not entered from the source and this might be the handiwork of miscreants . He assured that the department will enquire into it.
